6 Modern Day Motors Redesigned for the Blade Runner Universe

Blade Runner Universe

Whatever car you drive, whatever its weaknesses and flaws, it’s your car and it means the world to you. Yeah, you might yell at it when it plays up, or talk about some dream car you’d love to own when it’s not listening, but when you’re in that car you’re sitting in your cockpit and you are the master of your immediate universe.

It’s about time that these common or garden motor vehicles that most of us drive got to glimpse a bit of the glamour they deserve. And so the people at Jennings Ford Direct have created a stunning new visualization of how these everyday cars and vans might look if they were revamped for the universe of the forthcoming movie Blade Runner 2049.

The beautiful thing about the Blade Runner universe, as you’ll recall from Ridley Scott’s original 1982 cyberpunk vision, is that it is built on the failing society of yesteryear. The first film was particularly original for the way it showed the future as not being shiny and new, but dirty and hustled together from pre-existing stuff.

So what happens when that ‘pre-existing stuff’ is your trusty Volkwagen Golf, the Ford Transit van you use for work, or the Dodge Charger LX the cops use to patrol the streets? Well, they get the full cyberpunk treatment: lowered chassis for crawling, private detective-style, along the gutter; tilted windscreens to allow visibility to the airborne traffic of flying cars above; and metal shuttered side windows to reduce the risk of getting jacked at the lights.

There’s even a Harley Davidson V-Rod Muscle in there, souped-up to take off into the air and give chase to replicants in need of retiring.

So next time you clamber into your trusty automobile, have a look around and think about how it might handle street life in 2049. The future is made up of whatever materials are strong enough to survive today!
